At The Dental Works Kids, we know that a first dental visit can feel like a big deal — for children and parents alike! That’s why every part of our practice, from the moment you walk through the door, is designed to help your child feel safe, relaxed, and even excited to be here.

Here’s what your child’s first visit will look and feel like, from arrival to that all-important goodbye wave.

My big day at the dentist

What to Expect

1

I arrive and I'm greeted with a smile.

Our friendly, welcoming team will be there to say hello the moment we walk in — making sure both me and my grown-up feel right at home from the very start.

2

I get to explore the dedicated kids' waiting room.

This isn’t like any other waiting room — it’s made just for children like me! There are lots of books and sensory toys to play with, keeping me busy, calm, and happy before I’m called through.

3

I meet my dentist and we have a chat.

Before anything happens, my dentist takes the time to say hello, explain what we’re going to do in a fun, simple way, and let me ask any questions. Nothing is a surprise!

4

I get to put on my fun sunglasses.

I climb up into the comfy chair and choose a pair of cool sunglasses to wear — they keep the light comfortable and make me feel like a superstar while my teeth are checked.

5

I open wide and my dentist counts my teeth.

My dentist gently checks my teeth and gums, chatting to me the whole time so I know exactly what’s happening and never feel worried. There are even TVs built right into the ceiling so I can watch my favourite shows!

6

I get lots of praise and a high-five!

Whether it’s my very first check-up or a bit of treatment, my dentist and the team cheer me on every step of the way. When we’re finished, it’s high fives all round!

7

I say goodbye, all smiles!

I leave feeling proud of myself, happy with my visit, and already looking forward to coming back to see my friends at The Dental Works Kids.

For Parents

How to prepare your child for their first dental visit

A head start on happy smiles

Starting early makes the biggest difference

We recommend children visit us from around their first birthday, or as soon as their first tooth appears. Early visits are short, relaxed, and fun — they’re all about building familiarity and confidence long before any treatment is ever needed. Children who grow up visiting us regularly are far less likely to experience dental anxiety later in life.
